Why power quality should be recorded
Power quality issues can be the cause of instantaneous outages, fires, or unnaturally high wear and tear on equipment. Employees are put at risk, and high costs and damage to equipment are incurred. The cause is often a mystery, as power quality problems go undetected and can continue to cause damage.
You can prevent this from happening with proper power quality recording and data analysis. Problems become visible and you can initiate appropriate measures to avoid negative consequences and eliminate the causes.
Power quality impairment
The voltage in the grid can be influenced by a wide variety of factors. Causes are, for example, grid distortions from power electronics and rectifiers, resonance or lightning strikes.
In order to assess the state of the power quality, various factors are considered. Some typical factors are:
- Inductive and capacitive phase shifts
- Flicker
- Harmonics
- Events and transients
- Unbalance
- Resonances
Standard-compliant recording at the infeed
Certified measuring methods with high measuring accuracy are used to check the power quality according to EN 50160 at the power transfer point (PCC) as well as in the internal power grid according to EN 61000-2-4. We support you with the UMG 512-PRO, which is certified with class A to record your power quality in compliance with standards.
