The UMG 103-CBM is a universal measurement device for DIN rail mounting in low-voltage distribution systems and is used to measure and check electrical characteristics in energy distribution systems. It measures the harmonics currents up to the 40th harmonic current.

Main features of the UMG 103-CBM

Harmonics

Harmonics currents are caused by equipment with non-linear characteristics, such as transformers operated in saturation, energy-saving lamps, frequency converters, and power electronics. They load the grid with additional currents and can affect or even destroy equipment. These grid distortions can be detected and documented using power quality analyzers.

Modbus interface

Many UMG measurement devices have an RS-485 interface with Modbus RTU protocol, which enables extremely cost-effective networking. It is characterized by a simple topology structure and insensitivity to EMC interference. Communication between the transmitter and receiver is wired via a shielded, twisted pair cable.

GridVis®

GridVis® is a comprehensive and scalable software for setting up an energy monitoring system and for monitoring power quality. It is used for programming and configuring many UMG measurement devices as well as for reading, processing and analyzing measurement data. Typical applications are energy supply, industrial plants, facility management, etc.

Limit value monitoring

Limit value monitoring can be assigned to both alarm management and switching operations. Corresponding UMG measurement devices have digital outputs that are also suitable as switch outputs. This allows certain reactions to be automated if a threshold value is exceeded or not reached.

Ideal for Industry 4.0 applications

Industry 4.0 – that means networking on the one hand, and smart controls that reach deep into the system on the other. What sensors at the tip of a robot arm detect is transmitted to a development team on the opposite side of the world. This technology requires a power supply of the highest quality and reliability; realtime data processing cannot tolerate any voltage dips.

It is therefore essential not only to monitor the energy supply with a variety of instruments, but also to integrate it into a unique, modern monitoring system – in line with the Industry 4.0 philosophy.

The UMG 103-CBM is the ideal component for front-line measurement data acquisition. By combining master devices (e.g. UMG 96RM-E) and GridVis® software, it is possible to realize fully scalable solutions. All data are captured centrally in a database and can be recorded and analyzed with GridVis®. This not only saves direct costs for purchasing, but also simplifies the integration, training and service processes. Since all information can be accessed via a common, standardized interface, 3-in-1 monitoring makes the perfect fit for the Industry 4.0 concept.

Areas of application

Large measurement data storage for even greater data security

Qualified statements about energy consumption and power quality cannot be obtained with measurements that are limited exclusively to the feed-in point. If you want to find sources of interference or energy wasters, you have to collect data at multiple points in the network, i.e. the granularity (resolution) of the measurement is crucial. But this is often a question of space and cost.

The UMG 103-CBM is an ideal solution for this task. The extremely compact and inexpensive universal measurement device only requires a width of 71.5 mm on the DIN rail and therefore fits easily into any installation distribution board. In addition to a large number of energy values and electrical measured values, it offers a variety of additional functions, such as the measurement of harmonics current, storage of minimum and maximum values, operating hours meter, and bi-metallic function. The UMG 103-CBM can be operated as a slave on a higher-level device, such as the UMG 604E, or connected directly to a PC.

Local data backup with clock | Battery | Memory

The Janitza UMG 103-CBM is based on the tried and tested technology of the UMG 103. With a clock, battery and measurement data storage, it becomes a device that opens up completely new applications. On the one hand, data security is significantly increased. This is highly relevant if energy data is recorded separately for individual parts of the company or customers. On the other hand, the device can be used as a stand-alone solution in areas where differentiated network monitoring was previously too complex.
